cymbalta ssri pain relief? how does cymbalta as a SSRI differ from other SSRI in that it does something for pain relief?

jj2cats replied: "I don't know how it differs but I DO KNOW it relieves Neurology pain like nothing else does."

Jimbo replied: "It only helps with certain kinds of pain."

Is anyone taking wellbutrin with an SSRI like prozac or like cymbalta/effexor xr? I get really irritable, insomnia, and angry with headaches on wellbutrin but I'm gaining weight on other antidepressants. Could I take it WITH something else? Please specify wellbutrin or wellbutrin xl.

animal lover replied: "It sounds like maybe this drug is not the one for you. Perhaps the combo is wrong too. Talk to your Dr. Good luck to you!!!"

Rockr_Chick replied: "I took wellbutrine with lexapro for a while, it helped. You could ask your doctor about it. These 2 medications are suppose to work better when used with eachother."

CrispyEd replied: "I take Wellbutrin SR and Paxil (Paroxetine). Yes, Wellbutrin (buproprion) is notorious for causing agitation, the sweats, irritability, etc. I take 200mg of Wellbutrin SR a day plus 40mg of Paroxetine; I use the Wellbutrin to offset some of the side effects of the Paroxetine. It is often prescribed with SSRI's for this purpose. Also since a lot of the SSRI's reduce anxiety, one may help with those side-effects too. Depending on what your diagnosis is, you may also want to look at some mood stabilizers as well..."

JR8898 replied: "Yes, it is possible to take an SSRI with Wellbutrin. The idea behind it is to get more serotonin from the SRRI and dopamine from the Wellbutrin. They also sort of offset some side effects: Wellbutrin is more stimulating, SSRI's make you more sleepy, SSRIs might cause sexual side effects, Wellbutrin MAY offset them. I take Wellbutrin (XL) and Lexapro. I've been pleased with the combo, not thrilled, but I think it helps."

yahhtrickyahh replied: "i take Prozac well i did until i just didn't feel like it anymore. i was irritable and such until the doctors put me on depocote which is a mood balancer it also treats migraines. i don't take either anymore because i don't want to but it did work."

beachbum85 replied: "i had those exact same side effects from wellbutrin. my dr just switched me to effexor xr (which is basically a combination of a drug like wellbutrin and an SSRI, called an SSNRI) a couple weeks ago. I feel so much better on the effexor than i did on the wellbutrin. and actually, weight loss is more common with effexor than weight gain. Personally, i have less of an appetite on effexor than i did on wellbutrin. i know thats not exactly what you asked, but hope it helps"

Has anyone switched from one of the older SSRI (for depression) to Cymbalta? If so what were the results. Also new users, please give your opinion. Did it help your depression?

mnvikings1973 replied: "Still sticking with paxil cr ....its my saving grace"

liz replied: "i just resently switched, but i use it because i have horrible panic attacks. the other medicines that i took made me feel depressed and so far this one hasn't. i have only been taking it for two or three months and sometimes it might take longer to see results. but so far, i am very happy with the results with Cymbalta. i also know a woman that took it for depression and she said that it made her sleepy. but i have never felt that way, guess it just works different for different people. best of luck to you!!!"

Im on cymbalta..someone said it is an ssri? What is that? And also, i have been trying to have a baby...is cymbalta bad to be on?

the_only_solorose replied: "http://www.drugs.com/cymbalta.html this will tell you all about cymbalta, including what a ssri is."

perrch01 replied: "SSRI is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Basically meaning that when serotonin is released in the brain it is released from a synapse and there is some difficulty in it crossing the post-synaptic cleft and being abosrbed into the next synapse. This causes the serotonin to be reabsorbed by the releasing synaptic cleft. This reabsorption thereby prevents the serotonin from moving on, and this depletion is one of the causes of chemical depression. The SSRI prevents the serotonin from being reabsorbed into the pre-synaptic cleft, therefore it rests in the cleft longer allowing it time to be absorbed into the next synapse. I don't have my med-reference book with me so I don't know the efects on pregnancy offhand, but if you want to email me i would be happy to look it up."

buggerhead replied: "Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors It is one class of antidepressants. It does cross the plecenta, so talk to your doctor about what should happen (most likely a change of antidepressant) once you get pregnant."

Tabatha replied: "Cymbalta is not an SSRI. The SSRI group of anti depressants are Prozac, Celexa/Citalopram, Paxil, Lexapro, Zoloft. Cymbalta is an SNRI, because it works on both serotonin and also another neurotransmitter; it is a newer anti depressant and is prescribed for major depressive disorders as well as less severe problems. If you check the leaflet that comes with your Cymbalta, it will tell you whether it's OK to take it while hoping to become pregnant. If it doesn't make it clear, you should check with your doctor. Some anti depressants have been around for longer than this one and more may be known about their effects on pregnancy. Don't just stop taking it, though, if you are going to come off it, decrease your dose slowly and with advice from your doctor, or you may feel awful for a bit!"

sunnygirl05 replied: "a SSRI is a type of anti-depressant. there are many types with different meds and different effects and side effects."

Of the two Lexapro or Cymbalta, which generally has less sexual side effects? Lexapro being the most 'selective' SSRI and Cymbalta being an SNRI

Melissa B replied: "Lexapro: Common side effects: Dermatologic: Diaphoresis Gastrointestinal: Diarrhea, Nausea Psychiatric: Sleep disorder, Somnolence or insomnia Reproductive: Disorder of ejaculation, Impotence Other: Fatigue Serious side effects: Endocrine metabolic: Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion Psychiatric: Depression, worsening (rare), Suicidal thoughts (rare), Suicide (rare) Cymbalta: Common side effects: Cardiovascular: Palpitations (1% to less than 10% ) Dermatologic: Diaphoresis (6% to 8%) Gastrointestinal: Constipation (5% to 15% ), Decrease in appetite (6% to 16% ), Diarrhea (7% to 13% ), Nausea (14% to 38% ), Xerostomia (5% to 15% ) Musculoskeletal: Asthenia (2% to 8% ) Neurologic: Dizziness (6% to 17% ), Insomnia (9% to 13% ), Somnolence (7% to 21% ), Vertigo (1% to less than 10% ) Ophthalmic: Blurred vision (1% to less than 10% ) Renal: Increased frequency of urination (1% to 5% ) Reproductive: Reduced libido (1% to 7% ) Respiratory: Cough (3% to 6%), Nasopharyngitis (7% to 9% ) Other: Fatigue (2% to 13% ) Serious Side effects: Hepatic: Hepatotoxicity Psychiatric: Suicidal thoughts (4% )"

facestank replied: "Hard to say, because there is a lot of variation in the side effects, depending on the individual taking the medication. But, I would guess that Cymbalta is more likely to have worse side effects because it is an SNRI, so it works on more neurotransmitters than Lexapro (which is an SSRI). Lexapro is marketed as an antidepressent that has less sexual side effects than others. I still have heard that a lot of people have problems with it though."

Q.T.Ï€ Reuben 2 replied: "I took Lexapro for several months last year. While it didn't take away my desire or ability it did take forever for me to ejaculate. I didn't have an orgasm, just a feeling of relief similar to emptying a full bladder."

The Kings replied: "Cymbalta turned me into an insane bitch 1-2 hours after taking it, and then it would ease up. It also made me sick right after taking it. Lexapro, on the other hand, doesnt have any side effects for me. Not even sexual ones ."

How long after I quit an SSRI can I drink without the effects? It's been like two years, I'd like to knock one back. I was on Celexa for awhile, then Dezipramine and two weeks of Cymbalta. When I was on Celexa I would get nauseous for a couple of days if I drank. I quit 60mg Cymbalta last Saturday.

syrious replied: "You can drink alcohol any time you want to. Just limit them to one or two while you are on those medicines and don't drive. When off the meds you drink like you have common sense and you will be OK."

How did you cope with SSRI withdrawal? I've been trying to find an opportunity to get off Cymbalta for about a year now, but theres never a good time, thanks to the incapacitating side effects. Any way, I missed a dose today, and I'm miserable. I'm frightened of the side effects that will come when my doctor and I finally have a chance to wean me off. Those of you that successfully came off of drugs like Effexor and Cymbalta; what helped you overcome its side effects? I've talked to my doctor about this many times.

Jennifer m replied: "I definitely would not take yourself off, until you have spoken with your doctor. I had been taking Paxil for 6 years for panic attacks and I stopped taking it a year ago. Four months ago I started having horrible panic attacks again, and had to start all over with the side effects of taking them. It is horrible. I would be very careful with coming off of Cymbalta. The effects can change from person to person, but can be very serious. I would continue to take your regular dose until you can get in to talk with your doctor. I hope this helps, and good luck!!"

Violet Pearl replied: "Get a book called "The Antidepressant Solution: A Step-by-Step Guide to Safely Overcoming Antidepressant Withdrawal, Dependence, and Addiction" and his plan."

terri c replied: "I would talk with your doctor and your therapist about taking yourself off/ lowering dosages.Quitting cold turkey is a really unhealthy way to do it .you should taper it down on a method that approved."

Gumdrop Girl replied: "I was on Paxil briefly. Exams and school stressed me out, and I was having panic attacks. The course of Paxil I took was a carefully measured 2-week regimen. It weaned me off gently at the end, so I didn't crash from it, although I was a bit cranky. I coped by drinking a lot of water and meditating. I kept myself as comfortable as possible, and I stayed away from stressful situations as much as possible. Lots of rest helps."

Is it possible to have a fatal od from Duloxetine (Cymbalta)? Or what about any of the SSRI's such as Citalopram (Celexa)? I know the old Tricyclic anti-depressants such as Amitriptyline are fairly easy to kill yourself with, but it is my understanding that most of the new ones won't kill you. Is this correct? Thanks

notintown replied: "If you OD on anything you are at risk. Even Tylenol. I suggest you take the prescribed dose and just stick with it."

Cymbalta and night sweats? For the past year or so I've been experiencing terrible night sweats. I recently learned that night sweats are a side effect of Cymbalta. The night sweats are making me miserable, I wake up soaked and have to change my clothes 2-3 times a night. Has anyone else had this issue with Cymbalta or any other SSRI? If so, have you been able to find a way to alleviate the sweating? Thanks a lot!

Erika replied: "maybe your peeing your pants? i heard peeing is a side effect of being a nasty fat bitch.."

McCall Evans replied: "Yes, both SSRI and SNRI medications can cause a multitude of side effects including Sleep hyperhidrosis, more commonly known as the night sweats. However, Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is a Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRI) not a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI), as you said. Obviously, if these night sweats continue or become worse you will need to talk to your doctor to adjust or change your medication regimen. Some people require many different types of medication changes to find the right dose. I hope you work things out."

Jody replied: "I have night sweats from time to time with Effexor and neurontin, I'm not sure which one is the villain, and it usually happens for several days in a row and then it stops for several weeks. I think it has to do with my mensy cycle, and no I don't like it. I'v had to change 2 times in one night but hardly ever more than once. I leave a fan on every night now. There are way worse side effects, it's better than weight gain for me."

What food or liquids should one take while withdrawing? I have been on Cymbalta, which is an SSRI, and have decided with my doctor that it is not needed and that I should try to go off it. We worked out that I am to finish my RX that I have by taking one every other day. I am wondering if there is something I should eat or drink to help replenish whatever it is, vitamin-wise or nutriant-wise, while trying to work through this withdraw. PLEASE HELP!!!

Shey S replied: "Drugs and other toxins accumulate in the liver. A gentle food based detox is a good idea to help clear out your system. The liver cleansing diet lasts for 8 weeks but the principles of the diet can be adhered to for life. This diet allows you to eat well but just has some restrictions. You can do this for as long as you need to. It requires that you eliminate red meat, animal fats, dairy, all processed food and anything containing additives. Replace that with fresh fish/seafood (not fried), some lean chicken, lots of vegetables (raw is better), salads and fruit, wholemeal bread, pasta and rice. Drink lots of water and if you can make a fresh raw vegie juice each morning then the process will speed up. I've attached some articles below that will explain in more detail and offer an example diet plan and other tips. Best wishes."
